Grass pavers Utrecht The Netherlands

Grid Pavers (permeable pavement)

Created at: 29 Apr 2022

Description

The grass pavers are an aesthetic part of the Vechtdijk. The pavers create a fluent transition between the rural area and the city. Infiltration is not the main goal of the grass pavers. The water doesn't discarge through the pavers, even though the parking area is built on a slope.

Infiltration capacity was tested on 17-12-2021 by full-scale testing (SIA-RAAK onderzoek Waterbergende Weg) and an infiltration speed of 85mm/hour was found.

Rainwater infiltrates fast enough for heavy rain events, contributing to the replenishment of the groundwater. Pollution from the cars is captured and retained in the top layer, preventing it from spilling out into the surface water. On top of that the evaporation of the grass contributes to cooling.
