Rehabilitation and strengthening school with improved wind mitigation with additional landslide and flooding protection structures

Problem Area - Flood Vulnerability

Problem Area - Damage by Wind

Created at: 15 May 2022

Description

  1. Rehabilitate and strengthen weak school structure to be resilient against damaging winds. Use of thicker 0.38mm zinc roofing, fastened with screws at critical edges and ribbed roofing nails elsewhere to ensure no vibrational movement during high winds. Metal plates used to strengthen critical points on truss and rafter structures.

  2. 240 m3 of gabion structure to stabilize slope and prevent further landslides in front of school

  3. 40m drainage channel behind school diverting surface runoff to nearby creek to prevent flooding on school grounds
