Rehabilitation and strengthening school with improved wind mitigation standard

Problem Area - Damage by Wind

Created at: 15 May 2022

Description

  1. Rehabilitate and strengthen largely destroyed school structure to be resilient against future high wind events. Use of thicker 0.38mm zinc roofing, fastened with screws at critical edges and ribbed roofing nails elsewhere to ensure no vibrational movement during high winds. Metal plates used to strengthen critical points on truss and rafter structures and inter truss timber bracing

  2. Further refurbishment: concreting floor, repairing damaged walls and replacing damaged windows and doors.

  3. New 26m drainage channel around back of school to receive uphill surface runoff and prevent flooding in school area

  4. Construction of new male and female sanitation facilities with water connected from existing distribution network
