Indian waterfront project

Water Quality Monitoring and Improvement

Created at: 21 Jan 2016

Description

Indian waterfront project The city of Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh province) is not facing the waterfront and therefore not meeting its full potential. The Ganges River is very important because of religious believes. Because of industrial and domestic waste and ashes of religious funerals, the river is highly contaminated. The goal of this international project is to open the city of Kanpur to the Ganges River, by treating sewer water discharges, developing green open spaces, and increasing mobility and recreation. The purpose of the inception mission was to visit the city of Kanpur (inspecting the riverfront), to discuss challenges and to provide potential solutions.

Results so far The findings were presented to and received positively by the Kanpur Development Authority (KDA). Numerous internatonal projects (ranging from room for rivers, to innovative constructed wetlands) illustrate the strategy.
