Problem Area - Rainwater Nuisance

Open Stormwater Flow (gutter/hollow road)

Created at: 07 Jul 2021

Description

28th of july 2014 is a famous date for rainwater nuisance in the Netherlands. The city of Arnhem received approx 100 mm in an hour causing pluvial flooding at many locations in this undulating area. Since 2018 measures are carried out to alliviate the flooding problem in the Bakenberg quarter. The applied measures are elevating the kerbstones around the sportsfields, thus creating storage and preventing drainage to the lower situated dwellings of the quarter. Besides that the road was transformed tot a hollow gutter shaped profile, bioswale were installed and the main drainage to the woods by a culvert was realised.
