Created at: 19 Jul 2021

Construction of a green wall around the city of Madrid in order to combat the effects of heat stress and heavy rainfall. The forest will connect existing green areas around the city in a 75 km stretch. Moreover, almost half a million trees will be planted.

In addition to climate adaptation, the forest will improve the air quality in the city, improve biodiversity and absorb CO2 from the air (thus contributing to climate mitigation).

The development of the project will be organised through idea tenders, in which various organistaions can compete for a winning design. Main criteria are that the forest will be a collective good and multidisciplinary project.
